Catholic Charities Dallas provides detained individuals in immigration removal proceedings the information they need to take ownership of their cases. However, sometimes detainees need more than just information, so we refer them to volunteer attorneys willing to take their cases. We are always in search for new recruits. If you are an attorney who has ever had an interest in making a difference or if you’ve ever had an interest in immigration law more broadly, this symposium is for you. Local immigration attorneys and professors will present topics on immigration removal proceedings, including an overview of the immigration removal process and common forms of relief.
Up to twenty-five (25) applicants will be able to participate in the Model Hearing Program (MHP). The MHP is an educational program coordinated by DOJ’s Office of Legal Access Programs to improve the quality of advocacy before the immigration courts as well as to increase levels of pro bono representation. It provides hands-on immigration court training for those who are interested in representing indigent immigrants on a pro bono basis in the immigration court.
This event provides up to 6.25 CLE hours for Texas attorneys.
*Registration in the Model Hearing Program will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Participants must first attend the morning sessions.
**Law students must register with their school e-mail address.
